Shipping policy
Shipping policies and info:
We make everything by hand and put very limited quantities of confections on our website for shipping.
We do not ship daily. Your order will be held until we ship (typically 2x/week) when it will go out in the order of being received.
All notes in the "order notes" box on the checkout page will go to your intended recipient, so please put gift notes there when checking out. Prices are not included on our invoices, don't worry!
Please note that only some methods of shipping have guaranteed transit times.
If you select a faster guaranteed shipping option please be aware that your order will still be held until our shipping dates -- i.e. overnight shipping is overnight from the date the package is shipped, not ordered.
If shipping to an NY Metro area address your best guaranteed option may be UPS Ground as they may guarantee next day delivery within a certain area.
We ship to all of the United States. Regrettably, we can not ship elsewhere (including Canada, so sorry!).
Chocolate is a perishable material and is susceptible to melting. We package our chocolates with the utmost care and offer thermal options for hot conditions (cold packs and cold wrap) but can not control what the carrier does with your package!
Kindly ensure the shipping address is correct and the package can be accepted upon first attempt so it’s not returned to the carrier, and that the package is not exposed to the elements when delivered.
We cannot offer refunds or returns if your chocolate is damaged due to shipping issues. If shipping to a warm climate, add an ice pack and ship via a fast method or else do not order, our chocolate is expensive!
For local pick up, please order on our New Paltz website here and NYC website here.
You can add ice packs to your order here. We can’t guarantee that your chocolate will arrive unmelted, particularly in very warm climates or if the package sits on a hot doorstep all day, but it will cut the risk of melting.
We are unable to split an order and ship to multiple addresses. If you wish to ship to multiple addresses you’ll have to place multiple orders. You can have numerous “ship-to” addresses in your address book for just this purpose. Please do not place an order and ask to split a shipment in the comments section.
We use bio-degradable cornstarch peanuts for packing material. However, some packages may contain other packing material such as paper, candy pads, plastic bubbles or bubblewrap, etc. We re-use clean packing material and receive material from local businesses to re-use. We try to re-use first and then use new packing materials so rest assured that we have not, and would not, purchase plastic packing materials!
Please contact us via email for any shipping questions.
HERE ARE A TON OF WORDS ABOUT WHERE WE'RE AT AS OF WINTER 2025 WITH SHIPPING IN CASE YOU'RE INTERESTED!
THE GOLDILOCKS SITUATION IN WHICH WE FIND OURSELVES
I think about you guys....a lot. I guess every business owner thinks about her customer base? But for the past few weeks I've been OBSESSING OVER YOU. Because I am frankly horrified by the thought of letting you down this holiday season. We're going to be shipping less than ever this winter and I am worried this will make you sad. I'm so honored that you like our stuff -- it's the true joy of my life and it makes our days here so wonderful -- and to not make enough sweets for your December celebrations is sad as hell.
But the facts of the case are these:
We used to ship a lot more, and hire a bunch of seasonal helpers, and really try to grow and all that. But then we did a huge financial reckoning and realized that shipping a lot more didn't lead to...uh, like, more profit? On paper making more $$$ is fun (it's mostly great to have numbers to show to banks when you're asking for loans to continue the vicious cycle) but the additional training + labor costs (not to mention intense stress) meant it all evened out in the wash, really. Not to mention that an endless growth mindset is THE EXACT LITERAL THING -- LIKE, *THEE* THING -- DOOMING US AS A PEOPLE?
Anyway. We could easily make a lot more profit from our shipping side of the business! We could package chocos in plastic so they're sturdier, we could streamline our SKUs so they all fit in a box nicely (no giant bonbon filled skulls), we could [wait this 47-year-old brain can NOT think of the word when you hire someone else to make your stuff??? like, that's how much I hate this idea??]....we could send our stuff to a distribution center and outsource our shipping. We could use cheaper ingredients or pay people less.
Of course we're never going to do any of that hahaha. What is the point of living if I'm not hand writing your XXX notes to your lover when you send them a box of vulvas for Valentine's?? [CO-PACKING, THAT'S THE WORD!!!]. Yeah, we could send our recipes to a co-packer and they could make our stuff. Except....we can't. Our recipes are fiddly as HELL. Can you even imagine. With respect, I would expire.
So what we've done instead, since this spring, is to get smaller. Our team is the smallest it's been in years and instead of endless Slack messages and meetings, we just see each other every work day and chat to plan what we're making when and stuff. Simple. We mostly sell things at our "flagship" shop in New Paltz, and we send some to our tiny NYC outpost and it just goes. We make the same amount of profit as before but life is so much less stressful. This has also turned out to be a *really* good strategy for surviving during uncertain and, frankly, stultifying a f economic times. Our ingredient + packaging prices have spiraled but we're keeping prices the same (for now) because we're small, scrappy, and we stay off Slack and stick to actually, ya know, making things.
So we're going to see how that goes for the holiday season. We will be shipping, just less than you're used to. By, uh, several magnitudes. And so, I wake up thinking about you and I go to bed thinking about you. All the special holidays we've shared together and what if things sell out before you get them and you're sad!
I promise to communicate with you constantly (mostly on social media bc it's free! Sending out a sletter costs like $400 bc our list is giant!!) about shipping dates!!
COME VISIT!!
LOVE YOU. FOR REAL.
xoxox,
Lagusta
